The Distinguished Club Program: By Kristin Nickells
I asked that question too. Being Distinguished means you get a ribbon and honourable mention. Big deal. Then I began to understand that the WHY of getting those points was what really mattered. It’s the process, the journey and the purpose that make those points absolutely precious and critical for a club. When you begin to look at this program from the perspective of why, it is easy to realize that a club that is achieving these points is healthy, thriving & vital; that its members are participating fully and that we are all keeping our promise to each other to grow and learn become what we set our intention to be.
That is why I created the Reach for the Stars Program. The DCP took me years to understand and appreciate and I wanted an easier way for others to “get” it faster than I did. I wanted it to get back into the hands of every member and help them visualize the why, in order to understand how working towards these goals benefits us all.
Here is a snapshot of the why’s. I encourage you all to keep that poster visible, celebrate every star and we can all celebrate together when at June 30th you are a President’s Distinguished Club!
Your club will gain momentum and thrive when your members make strides in all 4 cornerstones of a healthy club:
The ‘why’ of participating and embracing each of the four cornerstones
WHY REACH FOR THE STARS?
Reach for the stars this current Toastmasters year! Display this poster proudly on your lectern at every meeting! Make a big deal about pasting each star onto your poster!
You have earned it! It takes hard work and determination, AND the benefits to your club are invaluable!
